Pokesdown – Bournemouth’s Vintage Quarter! Valentines Event – 12^th February

Love Pokesdown?  Love Valentines?  Love someone special? Then you’ll love Pokesdowns Valentines Fayre!  On Sunday the 12^th of February from 10am to 4pm The Pokesdown Collective will once again be getting together for a special Valentines themed event. 

Following the success of the Christmas Event the Pokesdown Collective are now looking forward to Valentines!  This event is set to be bigger and better than the last and will feature local shops offering Valentines themed gifts, an Independent Traders Fayre in The Tattoo Parlour Cafe, an Open Day at the Metropolitan Community Church on Hannington Road, Street Entertainers, even the Dorset Troopers will be there!  There will be much on offer to spoil your loved one, the Independent Traders Fayre will be hosting stalls including; vintage clothing and accessories, handmade cards, handmade jewellery, Vintage Photobooth, handmade cakes, handmade decorations, and much much more.

Caroline Read from The Tattoo Parlour Cafe said: “We love Pokesdown and we love Valentines!  We are so excited to be hosting another Independent Traders Fayre with such fantastic traders all offering something unique.   The Christmas event was amazing, with over 2000 people enjoying themselves and supporting the local economy.  We are looking forward to sharing the Valentines love with the wonderful Pokesdown community.”

Why not bring your loved one with you and enjoy Bournemouth’s Vintage Quarter, take a stroll down the street and delve into the shops, peruse the stalls and maybe even have a coffee and slice of cake.  Or if you are sneaking out without your loved one and you need a little help, just ask the shopkeepers or stall holders and they’ll be more than happy to help!

Once upon a Christmas Eve, while Santa sat and pondered. “My arms look bare and naked, should I paint them?”, Santa wondered.

He knew not how, so off he went, in a quest for information. And stumbled on a old grey man just outside Pokesdown Station.

“Forsooth”, said Father Christmas, for the old man looked insightful. “Where can I get a grand t…attoo, that will make me look delightful?”.

The fellow lifted one old finger, pointed up the road. “A place exists where they know how to ease your tattoo load”.

“They’re charming, oh so friendly, really know just what they’re doing. It’s just along there on the right, they call it Scribe Tattooing”.

“But I am oh so hungry, is there food along the way?”. “Oh yes”, said the man, “You must pop in to the The Tattoo Parlour Cafe”!

So Santa strode where he was told and yes the man spoke true. Scribe was simply marvellous, they designed a fine tattoo.

They painted him with love and care. With skill, with dash and charm. And gave him 8 fine reindeer plus a Rudolph on his arm.

So Santa went off pleased as punch, feeling cool and fab and gay, and full up from a lovely lunch at the Tattoo Parlour Cafe.

So Happy Christmas one and all, I hope my tale assists. You must know now what you should put upon your Christmas lists.

The same team that worked with Jon Snow loved the Tattoo Parlour Cafe so much that they came back to interview us!! Two ladies, Laura and Caroline were particularly interested in our 150 yrs of tattooing family heiratage and Lucille’s wonderful client base of ladies. They enjoyed a couple of treats while they were here and Caroline commented that her eggnog milkshake was ‘the best she had ever tasted’.. a great complement.. .she is American and they really know how to do milkshakes over there!  It looks as though they will both be back soon as they realised that they had used up all of their tapes….we have a lot to say!!?

POKESDOWN in Bournemouth will get its own Christmas tree as businesses continue their drive to rebrand it as the town’s ‘vintage quarter’.

The tree will be illuminated at 5pm on Thursday and many shops will trade until 10pm to mark the occasion.

The area around the train station is now home to vintage clothing shops, as well as the area’s traditional antique shops, and shoppers and traders have now set ‘The Pokesdown Collective’ to promote the area.

Emma Sadiwskyj-Frewer, a collective member from Charminster, said: “Pokesdown is fast developing into Bournemouth’s Vintage Quarter with lots of fabulous shops taking up residence.”

The guests at the lights switch-on include mayor and Pokesdown resident Cllr Christopher Rochester, Bournemouth Collegiate Choir, and local schoolchildren who will be decorating the tree.

The shops opening late include: Scribe Tattooing, Bournemouth Engraving and Trophy Centre, Tackle, Fishee Design Photobooth, Clobber, Opus Rooms Hairdressing, Love From Hetty & Dave, Reef Hair Studio, Decades of Design, George Fry, What Alice Found, Lionel Geneen, Flair, Kaotichandbag Geek Boutique and The Tattoo Parlour Cafe.

The Tattoo Parlour Cafe who will be hosting a Local Independent Traders Fayre selling handmade, original and vintage items. Caroline Read from The Tattoo Parlour and Scribe Tattooing said: “This wonderful event will showcase Pokesdown and celebrate this unusual and historic part of Bournemouth.”

In an event specifically aimed at female customers, the evening will feature a showcase of local trades and businesses who are representing Pokesdown – Bournemouth’s Vintage Quarter.

Scribe Tattooing will be offering one-off discounts on body jewellery, piercings and tattoos (booked on the night). Tattooist Lucille will be on hand for one-to-one tattoo consultations and to give an exclusive preview of her brand new flash collection. Our brand new range of body jewellery, just arrived from California will be available with gift-wrapping service and advice from body piercer Coco.

There will also be the opportunity to shop for pre-Christmas goodies from an exciting range of stalls from local traders – vintage clothing, retro-inspired handicrafts and handmade festive goods – there will be plenty to tempt and tantalize the bargain hunters!

Pokesdown’s very first Christmas Tree lights will be officially switched on during the evening, and The Tattoo Parlour Cafe will be serving up some festive treats and seasonal drinks as well as its’ usual menu.

It’s the perfect opportunity to check out what’s on offer in Pokesdown, Bournemouth’s most unique and creative area!
